The Sandcastle
The Sandcastle
24 x 30
Oil on Linen
Maple Shadow Frame
These sandcastle paintings are done from a recent trip where I enjoyed watching a group of kids just immerse themselves in the beach. The weather was perfect and watching them play reminded me of that time in your life when it is ok to just literally make things that will be washed away by the days end and not give that a second though.
This painting I love for the view of oblique from above. One of the terms I learned in art school of painting things from a bird eye view in a way. When I did this painting I realized how much of my work is almost snapshot oriented. I don’t do that on purpose and just really noticed it myself, but this one was done this way to give me the feeling I was in there with the kids in the sand, myself.
These are hard to photograph. In person the violets in the castles are softer and more lilac and the kids skin tone is not quite as sunburned as it appears, but a softer tone. The pinks are much more of a neon on her bathing suit.
