She is one of the first paintings to have the woman shielding her eyes. There are several smaller ones like this in the show that led to the larger pieces. I saw this pose on a woman last winter at the beach and it obviously interested me. How she shielded with her wrist and not a salute type shield. This painting I love for its sense of space as she is in the setting the larger pieces that folowed.
