Oil on Linen

Maple Shadow Frame

There is a whole series of paintings with a thought of whatever happens happens and this is one of them. The joy of painting is evident for me on the surface of the linen that is slightly tacky from the undertint of sludge from my brush container that holds turpentine. The reason this is so nice is the tactile feel of the brush against the linen makes the most amazing brushwork and you get so much depth from the way the paint holds and gives on the canvas. That is technical talk for the subject matter is invented and my attention and excitement is in the way the paint looks on the canvas. In this way, these little works are more abstract than most, but still hold their own story and narrative for the viewer.

This little boy, in my thoughts, is offering a treat to a little dog. It is invented with no references and is not any particular child, but just a child. The dog is mine because he is just so perfect to paint, he tend to star in many paintings.
