Maple Shadow Frame

Bunting and Stripes was painted initially over the winter and was carried to my summer studio to be finished. I am not sure if she is on a ship, on a balcony, or where she really is, but I do know it is the ideal day and the ideal temperature. When I painted her, I thought her skirt would be my focal point and it is, but then the flag bunting came in and now I feel like she is just looking into what things will bring. She was obviously, the laundry lady, as she is wearing her bun, and this one one of the very first times it just never even began as a uniform to be stripped off by paint, she just started this way.

For more explanation I will copy what I have written about the evolving of the laundry lady: She is, as some of you may have guessed who follow my work, the laundry lady. At some point over the summer, she evolved. I am not sure how that happened and it was not a matter of just changing her clothing. Last year I did a painting with a woman in pink, who was one of the first of her truly without her black and white uniform on, although she has had occasional forays into other clothing. At any rate, she, as my friend Joan said, just paid down that broom. Maybe she will pick it back up but I hope not. She has paid her dues.
