The laundry lady, folding as usual with the copper wall hanging behind her. This copper "donut" has been in my work over the years and I will explain why since I have been asked multiple times. At Nimrod Hall there was a room called the little dining room where the previous owners parents ate in the winter. Part of the decoration was a series of copper wall hanging that were very mid century and over the years they crept into my work maybe as a form of establishing a sense of place for me. We have painted that room and done many things to that part of the old house, but the copper donut is still there and will stay there becasue it belongs there. She is who I paint when I am relaxing and thinking of what to paint and many times I think these end up being my best works. No giving myself pressure, ever, when I paint her.
