Everyone now and again I like to get in touch with my NC Wyeth side and do something even more narrative than I normally do and this painting is representative of that. I have always been in awe of illustrators who can pull you into their world, like Normal Rockwell, Chris Van Allsburg, and even painters like Maxfield Parish and Fairfield Porter. This painting has a feeling of being right behind a couple of kids fishing on the James, complete with the Canadian Geese. So many of the elements are shown in many of my paintings, her striped skirt, the direct sunlight splashes, but the overall effect is more narrative than some. I love it. I run down by the James a lot of the time, and just love the way this piece captures it.
