The laundress has been cropping up in my since at least 2003 or earlier. She is not anyone specific but a symbol. If what I am not sure but she is also an amazing piece of dark negative space with her skirt and her apron reflects the sun and glows and so she is what I paint when I am between other things I paint. She is super indulgent because I paint her effortlessly. I don’t worry about her being life-like or perfect, but just focus on the overall composition of the painting. I almost feel guilty paint her because she comes so easily. I am not sure how it all started but someday want to compile a group of all she has done these years. She sneaks in most every series.
