One of the only a few vertical approaches, this painting is from a series I did at Nimrod Hall Last Summer. Going from simply running the artist workshops to owning Nimrod has given me so many things to think about. One of the responsibilities I love, but also one the the most time consuming and labor intensive tasks is planting and maintaining flowers for the artists to paint and just to make Nimrod Hall look its best. I love the process but it is a huge task from buying to hauling to planting. It is consuming. I found out how much so when I began to paint abstracts that turned into flowers in fields. Some of them ore more abstracted and some less, but the whole series is one the easiest transitions I have ever been able to track as to why I painted something. Once I realized they were flowers, I began to exaggerate and play up the colors and simplicity in some, and pull back toward less realistic in others, but they are share a common theme. Most of these works are fairly thickly applied paint for the abstracted flowers with a thinner approach to contrast with that, for the ground cover colors. I wish the tactile quality of these came through because it makes the pieces have a whole other dimension in person.
