Stems and Blooms
Stems and Blooms
30 x 40
Oil on Panel
Maple Shadow Frame
This is an original oil painting
I sketched this painting out about 2 years ago. This spring I realized it was behind some unpainted canvases in the studio and pulled it out to work on it this summer. It was only a drawing or underpainting is you want to be posh, but I decided to finish it. Or honestly to do it at all since it was just a hint of a painting.
My mental image from this was the flowers in the fields, in the mountains as if you were almost sitting in the field itself. I done;t work from references. I am sure that is obvious to anyone but I am not interested in what kind of flower something is as much as I am interested in what the painting needs and what makes the painting interesting. I get collective groans from my botanist painters who are painting every petal of a specific specimen but that is the beauty of art. We still get along and I respect them and I think I make them crazy but they deal with it.
This painting is photographing a little dark, It is lighter overall with almost fluorescent blooms on the top flowers.
