Maple Shadow Frame

I love to paint large. This whole series of flower abstracts has been a complete indulgence because of that. Large paintings make such an impact that it is like the difference in watching a movie in a theatre or on your iPhone. The scale just adds a statement that can simply make a space sing. This painting is one of the last I have done for this year’s show and I loved how this one turned out. It is color on color on color and in person is deeply grooved in places and very tactile. The horizontal sweeps of the baryte green make this one feel even more fluid to me and the pinks in the middle flowers are warm and cool pinks all layered together - something I have done a lot in all these works, and something that takes a long time as a painter to explore. Color is my passion and I think that is most obvious in these abstracted flower pieces.
