When I travel I always take a lot of photos and sometimes paint on site, time and patience of my family permitting. We went to Italy in 2012 with all the kids and I actually dragged my gouache paints along and did a lot of paintings because we were there long enough to have some down time even in Italy.  I loved it. This painting was painted from a gouache painting that I did on site in Lucca, Italy. I am keeping the gouache paintings from that trip and have occasionally gone back and painted from those works.  I do that because I really believe as long as you have BEEN onsite and painted, It gives me the gift of letting me revisit that place along with reliving the time I spent working on the original painting. It is a bit of a time machine. I did a few of these paintings in January and February of 2017 so I could spend a little time in Italy on those cold winter days. It was a nice visit. Plus everyone knows Cobalt Teal is my favorite color.
