This series of river tubing paintings was undertaken after a summer of exceptionally amazing weather where I felt like I was in the river more than I wasn't. It seemed like each afternoon offered up an amazingly hot but clear day and you needed the RIVER! The cool clear slow currents of the Cowpasture River was just perfect. You would float on the tube and it felt like a little wonderland the way the trees would arc over and the leaves in the breeze would literally sparkle. It literally would sparkle. It falls in with my obsession with the water sparkles on the ocean, honestly. So I decided to try to capture it in paint. It is such a thoroughly immersive feeling to be on a river with all the reflections, the blights and dark darks, that it seemed scary to even try it. I am still working on more of these in this series but it is rewarding and hard, but in a good way.
