Oil on Linen
Maple Shadow Frame
This is an original Oil Painting
This entire series started with one painting I did right after I came back from a ski trip I took this past winter but also from all the ones I have taken and my own experience in the mountains of Virginia.
My first inspiration was the way the mountains look at night when you are seeing them a distance. It is comforting to me. Vast open mountains are not. That is for therapy maybe, but the at their heart these pieces reflect comfort to me. The warmth of others out these and every little blot of paint represents a warm house with a fire going. It is idealized and I own that. I wish the real world was a little more like my paintings sometimes. But at their very essence these pieces are colorist paintings. Blues on blues, Very obvious brushwork and creating what I described earlier in a very abstracted and simplified way.
They are not easy to photograph because of the tones being so similar but they are much better in person and I don’t think you will be disappointed.
