If you have an hour to kill you can read what I have to say about cotton in the painting 'Cotton Bolls', that explains my fascination with cotton so I will not overload us with that again! This piece is an unusual abstract for me in that it actually is an abstract that is based on an object being abstracted and not pure color theory, and that object is cotton branches. I was painting so many cotton bolls in paintings and then this one just came out. I love how the web of (yellow?) cotton seems like it is hovering top of a landscape seen from the sky. To a non artist: this is the kind of thing that can be as surprising to the artist painting a piece as the one looking at it- how the final piece appears. It is somewhat of a mystery and adds to the appeal of abstract work. I can't explain why the cotton is yellow. I guess maybe tired of white?
