Mixed Media on Paper
Framed Under Glass/Thin Gold Frame
There are a dozen of these works on paper in the show, which is very unusual for me, but then this has been an unusual year. These paintings are mixed media, so in my world, that is acrylic, gouache, pencil, colored pencils and then graphite. I don’t work with these materials normally but found it to be incredibly soothing to have absolutely zero expectation on finished product and then the joy oh joy of fast drying paint. It is a whole other thing to paint with water based materials and layer, and then give myself no rules at all. They are abstract and almost all start with a circle of my favorite blue acrylic paint and a nice swath of opera pink to start it off. And from that stage on, they painted themselves., I have framed these in very simple frames that I feel like set them off nicely. They are deckle edged and floating inside the mat which is a look I always love. These pieces were incredibly helpful for me to be able to go headlong into pieces just enjoying color, line, space and immersion in art making. The ultimate goal!
These pieces re photographing brighter than they are in person. They would also be great in a pair or group if you have a larger space.
