This painting is one I have had for some time but it has not been shown very much because I have had it hanging at my house. Let me be clear in that I honestly do not like to have my own work hanging. Each artist is different that way, but for me it feels like work at home or something hard to explain. But I am ok with one or two pieces I feel are strong. I am ok and even a little proud when I have that experience. To be honest, I am not sure I could even mix the violet again that is in this painting. It is one of the purest violets in any of my paintings and that is what has always drawn me to the piece. But it is time to let it try to find another owner because I started to panic recently about how much of my own work I have. If you paint for 30 years and keep one painting every year you have 30. 30. 2 you have 60. And so on. The problem comes in that I paint my children constantly and that right there has you flooded with your own artwork because you aren't going to sell those pieces (even though they won't care about them but their kids might)! I always encourage my students to sell a painting if anyone ever wants it because truly, at some point, you will be able to part with it. Especially if you paint as much as I do. The other problem is I have a tendency to also buy other artists work and have a house full of really great not-my-own art myself so...you got to let them go.
