Vacation at the Seaside
Vacation at the Seaside
36 x 48
Oil on Canvas
Maple Shadow Frame
I will paste what is written about the precursor to this piece below but this is Her on vacation. She was in the mountains and needed the beach. The piece, in the staged shots for size, show her sitting on a very dark platform when it is actually very neutral violet. She is having a well earned rest. The single painting shows the color more accurately.
From the painting On Her Way : This summer I did a demo for my students at Nimrod that was the inspiration for this painting. It is not in the show as it sold, but it is a variant on the same theme. My demo was to show how I paint from no reference but my own memories of painting, seeing, and doing that I have now been actively doing nonstop for 30 plus years. Painting for me is not about replicating what I see in front of me, but has become about painting what I see in my mind using my tools I have from so many years of working.
She is on her way….the laundry lady who is, I guess, literally on her way. To the beach in this painting. Only when I write these descriptions do I even realize what the path was of my work. I did this very early in the summer, and she has shed her working uniform and I guess I thought she was traveling. She went then she just never went back. She morphed this summer into someone in pink, shopping, walking her dog, and truly, she just was on her way. None of this might make sense to someone who has not followed my work, but for those who do, it might.
