This Fall there was an event in Richmond for a Plein Air paint out hosted by a neighborhood in Richmond. Basically that means that for 5 days everywhere you looked there were artists painting outdoors (what Plein Air means). I had an absolute blast. This painting is of a series I LOVED painting of Charlie's Produce. Charlie is a local farmer who sets up a produce stand from Spring until the end of Fall and sells fresh produce like his father before him. He is a young, fun guy who made me feel totally welcome and I think that is why I like my paintings I did so much there. These people were not shopping at the same time, I painted them each as they were there, but Charlie does a big business and plenty of times there were more people than this at any given time. This painting won first prize at the Plein Air Event which was so nice!
People ask me all the time about the no faces in my paintings and it is simple, the specific face is not what is interesting to me, it is the fact that it represents all people or capturing one with a few simple strokes of the paint. THAT is fun, but worrying with all the features when my interest in is the scene is just irrelevant to me. When anyone sees a painting of my kids that I've done they are stunned to find that I can paint a face because I guess it seems like I can't when it is just a choice.
