Snowball & Scarf
Snowball & Scarf
30 x 40
Oil on Linen
Black Shadow Frame
This piece is one that takes three of my serial subjects that I return to over and over and combines them all. It is my figure, my scarves and my snow all in one. My focus was on the scarf but I loved the way the figure went across the canvas with scarves, skirts and her arms. Many times when I paint this figure I just let go and let it happen so it is less controlled than you would think. I don't do any preliminary sketching and plotting but just let it work as I go. All of my winter paintings helped me , last winter, be invigorated by the season and not just trying to get through it, which has been a motivation in the past. Seeing my same colors come out in paintings of a season of completely different temperature and landscape was eye opening and surprisingly fulfilling.
