I feel like when I started to paint interiors back in 1996, it was when I began to paint paintings and not have them paint me. Anyone who has tried to paint might understand that statement more than if you haven't. For a long time when you are initially learning to paint (because you continue to learn forever) you finally happen on something that is so familiar, nice, comfortable or something, that you are able to capture it the way you choose to capture it instead of it being kind of a mystery. for me that AHA moment came when  I painted interiors of my little apartment in the Fan area of Richmond, Va. I would come home from my full time job and paint at night and to be honest, I just would run out of steam to put a still life together or anything more complicated than sitting on my couch and looking straight ahead. I loved painting them and there are a few of these new interiors of my house where I live now. This one is of my blue leather chair and my favorite orange lamp in our family room that has a wall of windows that actually lead to a hallway not outside.
