I used to paint a lot of interior paintings. More from a lack of time to really do much else than because I really wanted to do so, but it was a turning point in my work. This past spring I decided to bring the paints inside and do some again and had a really great time. Our house has a room called the library because it is really just kind of an extra living room with a lot of bookshelves and you have to call it something. Plus it makes us feel like we are playing the game Clue to call it that, but I digress. This house is so full of things that I just like so I display them, that when people come over I think they are a little taken aback. Fisher Price vintage little people will be just lined up on a shelf next to a toy phone from the 1940's and this room collects the most of this need of mine for my eyes to be entertained at all times. The chandelier is pink, the couch is pink and I am pretty sure it is kind of "girly". Anyone who ever read The Nancy Drew series obsessively will immediately recognize the spines of the titan haired heroine who can solve any mystery with her best friends George and Bess. I bet I have read each of those books 4 times each and just seeing the spines of those yellow books gives me a little jolt of joy. That is the joy of an interior to me. Just to capture one thing that speaks to me and makes me happy. Thanks you Carolyn Keene, for many many afternoons of pure joy.
