Maple Shadow Frame

To an artist unfamiliar with Nimrod Hall, this may seem like a fairly hard and maybe limited color thing to paint with its range of blue on blue on turquoise without a nice orange pillow or red vase to help out the spectrum, but that sort of decoration isn't very typical of Nimrod Hall, so its not there. For those in the know, or who have stayed there, this room is one that has been known as Mae's room. She was the mother and grandmother to many people who love Nimrod and this was her personal space for many years. For me, as an artist, the color in this room was like stepping into a deep aqua pool. The sculpted carpet was a veritable ode to the 1970's with its variant tones from bright turquoise to deep ultramarine blue and as nubby as it was worn out . I have exaggerated the colors as I normally do, but to be honest, not as much as you would think. The focus for me, the day I sat in here and painted, was the billowing curtain, but I freely admit the color itself just took over as the focus. I was able to use every single blue I had in my paint box and it was sheer fun. The bedspread in the blue room is also blue, a worn blue hobnail type, another thing that I always found delightful. Last summer I had to buy a new spread because finally the fringe just gave up, but I found a wonderful Blue Chenille one that now lives here.  The Blue room is where a blue spread needs to live, at Nimrod Hall.
