Familiar Things
Familiar Things
30 x 40
Oil on Linen
Unframed
This piece is from a series of still lifes I painted when I was painting 5-7 hours a day. The objects and flowers are approached very abstractly and almost graphically, which is something that happens to me when I am painting that much, constantly, many hours, months on end. The more I paint the less realistic the object of the piece becomes about the paint itself and how it lays on the canvas. The objects are placed to make each other look harmonious, and are exaggerated as needed for the piece to work to my eyes. In this piece, the Familiar Things are objects that are scattered all over Nimrod, down to the gladiolas that I planted this Spring.
