I painted a whole series of scenes from Nimrod Hall from vintage pictures. This one is of the Wood Family sisters trying her hand at the rifle. About 1910. These paintings were done the summer before we bought Nimrod and I was a little bit obsessed with everything old about Nimrod in my unrelenting panic at the idea of actually owning the great old place. Although Nimrod has been a part of my life for all these years, it gave me a lot of comfort to look through Elsie's photo album for some reason. That is hard to explain to be sure, but she was a very happy person in photographs in a time period when most photo's were grim and very posed and I needed someone to feel happy about this idea I was contemplating. She was a cool chick back when I think they weren't all that common. All of the old photo picture paintings from Nimrod were from her album.
