I feel like when I started to paint interiors back in 1996, it was when I began to paint paintings and not have them paint me. Anyone who has tried to paint might understand that statement more than if you haven't. For a long time when you are initially learning to paint (because you continue to learn forever) you finally happen on something that is so familiar, nice, comfortable or something, that you are able to capture it the way you choose to capture it instead of it being kind of a mystery. for me that AHA moment came wehn I painted interiors of my little apartment in the Fan area of Richmond, Va. I would come home from my full time job and paint at night and to be honest, I just would run out of steam to put a still life together or anything more complicated than sitting on my couch and looking straight ahead. I loved painting them and there are a few of these new interiors of my house where I live now. I bought this chair that someone upcycled just because I had to have it to paint it. It sits a little awkwardly in my dining room because there is no real home for it, but the cheerful stripes just make me glad and it is actually really comfortable. Sometimes you have to just have something that you like even when it doesn't really have a purpose. At least that is what I tell myself when I buy things like this! But I love the painting of it and the wood accents of this chair just make it. It is the definition of vintage modern and I love that look.
