I painted this and kept looking at it over and over and could not figure out what was jarring to me when I first finished it. I realized I had tried to keep the mountain behind the camper more “realistic” and too that chance to throw some serious cobalt teal at the mountains and then it suddenly seemed right. It is rare that I go back and work on pieces once they are done but getting less so as I get more confident in what I understand. I am also less willing to just love a painting that feels unsettled and this is one that I am glad I reworked. The turquoise wall of mountain is something I see all around me every summer.
